Launch an InSpace Session from Canvas (Hosts and Instructors)

A step-by-step guide to launching an InSpace session from your Canvas course and running system tests for a smooth experience.

    You've built your Canvas course and activated the InSpace portal. It's time to launch an InSpace session! 

    1. Use the Canvas Course Navigation Menu to open the InSpace Integration.  
    2. Then, decide whether you'd like use the Virtual Office or the Classroom. Click on the appropriate tab in the InSpace Integration.  
    3. Next, select Join Space
    4. The InSpace session's Join Screen will open in a new tab. On this screen, you can modify your name and pronouns. You can check your camera, speakers, and microphone. We also recommend using the Run system tests link to ensure your computer and network are set up for a great InSpace experience.  
    5. When you are ready, click Join. Your session will open. Now, students in your course will be able to join you in the session as well. 

    Note: As the instructor, you can launch the Student Space too! However, any individuals enrolled in your course may also launch the Student Space and join it at any time.

    Running the System Tests

    InSpace is a browser-based application with no software installation or download. Therefore, it's important to keep your browser up to date when using InSpace. We recommend that everyone runs our System Test prior to joining a session, especially first-time users. The System Test is available on the Join Screen or while in a session (? > Run System Test).
