InSpace Roles and Permissions

Learn about the InSpace roles and permissions in our app and the InSpace Classroom LTI for Learning Management Systems

InSpace offers a dashboard-based platform for all of our subscribers and an optional Learning Management System (LMS) integration. Read on to understand the available roles and permissions. 

Please note that at the time of writing, InSpace does not support provisioning of roles. Individual users create their accounts by entering our platform via the Dashboard or the LMS. 

In-Session Roles

Host

An InSpace host must create an account to host or participate in sessions. 

Hosts may:

  • Create InSpace sessions on their Dashboard
  • Launch InSpace sessions
  • Delete InSpace sessions from their Dashboard
  • Add co-hosts to their sessions
  • Change the setup of their Spaces (add subspaces to Experience Hubs, change the background images of Spaces, rename Spaces)
  • Record their sessions and share the recordings
  • Moderate, and delete the chat
  • Lock the breakout rooms
  • Mute everyone in the meeting
  • Add an InSpace session as the default location for their Google Calendar meetings
  • Assign a session attendee to type Streamtext captions
  • Remove a session attendee temporarily or permanently
  • Take over another attendee's presentation

Attendee

An InSpace session attendee must create an account to participate in a session. Attending InSpace sessions as a guest is always free. 

Attendees may: 

  • Adjust audiovisual settings while in the session
  • Mute and unmute their own microphone
  • Turn video on and off; hide self-video view; add a profile picture
  • Share their screen; share and collaborate using GSuite documents; share and collaborate using Miro Whiteboard; share YouTube videos; share a second camera feed
  • Request permission to present while another user is presenting
  • Raise hand
  • Broadcast to override proximity audio
  • View attendee list; invite attendees over; offer assistance to an attendee
  • Turn on automatic closed captioning for themselves
  • Zoom in and out on the space; move around the space freely
  • Pin another user's video to their gallery
  • Send chats to the host and other participants if the host enables the chat
  • Edit and delete their own chats; download the chat
  • Move in and out of unlocked breakout rooms freely

InSpace Classroom LTI Roles and Permissions

InSpace integrates with courses on Canvas, Brightspace, Moodle, and Blackboard. To access a space associated with a course, attendees must be enrolled in the course as Instructors, TAs, or students. This protects student information and ensures that anyone who doesn't belong in the space cannot gain access. 

Instructor

  • Is automatically made the host of their own Virtual Office Space
    • Only the Instructor may launch their Virtual Office Space
    • Anyone with the link may join the Virtual Office Space
  • Is automatically made the host of the Student Space
    • Anyone enrolled in the course as an Instructor, TA, or Student may launch the Student Space at any time
    • Anyone enrolled in the course is the host of the Student Space (students have limited controls)
    • K-12 customers typically request that this space be removed from their integration
  • Is automatically made the host of the Classroom
    • Only students and TAs enrolled in the course can join the Classroom
    • The Instructor or TA must launch the Classroom before students can join

TA

  • Does not receive a Virtual Office Space
    • Is listed as a TA under the Instructor's Office Space
  • Is automatically made the host of the Student Space
    • Anyone enrolled in the course as an Instructor, TA, or Student may launch the Student Space at any time
    • Anyone enrolled in the course is the host of the Student Space (students have limited controls)
    • K-12 customers typically request that this space be removed from their integration
  • Is automatically made the host of the Classroom
    • Only students and TAs enrolled in the course can join the Classroom
    • The Instructor or TA must launch the Classroom before students can join

Student

  • Can join the Virtual Office Space of any instructor after the instructor has launched their Office session
  • Is automatically made the host of the Student Space
    • Anyone enrolled in the course as an Instructor, TA, or Student may launch the Student Space at any time
    • Anyone enrolled in the course is the host of the Student Space (students have limited controls)
    • K-12 customers typically request that this space be removed from their integration
    • Cannot change the background images in the space
    • Can lock 1 breakout room at a time
  • Can join the Classroom after the TA or instructor launches the session
